Teacup
Black tea, teacup, saucer 180 x 80mm approx Laure Genillard Gallery, London, 'Presque Rien II', October 08 - January 09
A cup of tea was brewed and left to stand until the tea evaporated. Each night when the air cooled, the tea stained a delicate line on the inside of the cup. The process leaves the everyday ritual of tea drinking incomplete: once the tea is prepared, it is abandoned and left to run its own course. In this neglect, the work aims to question what constitutes a ritual and examines how habit and ritual overlap.
