Dancing The Same Dance Icing sugar, glass, MDF board 1200 x 3000mm approx 2007
Movement for a dance was rehearsed and then performed once on each of a series of platforms covered with a layer of icing sugar. The vitality and energy of the dancer are apparent only in the traces left behind in this sweet substance, chosen for its associations with preservation.
However precisely the dance is executed, subtle differences between each performance are evident in the markings. The repetition of the same movement aims to address the frustration of perfectionism. This is endured privately and we are left to scrutinize and compare only the traces that remain.
The dance was performed by Jessica Green who worked with Rona on the performance, Dust-spin.
